Documentation / Practices

Applying the model

Move from an operating decision to a suitable implementation.

Purpose

KDV product documentation is a reference implementation and includes proposals as well as deployed components. This knowledge base expresses an operating model, not a product availability promise. Consumer, Producer, EcOps and PlatOps are supporting interaction perspectives. Other technologies and manual practices can implement the same responsibility model.

Working sequence

  1. Map the decision and accountable roles before selecting tools.
  2. Agree the minimum artefacts: domain charter, contract, access decision and evidence register.
  3. Choose an implementation for catalogue, identity, policy enforcement, quality and recovery.
  4. Separate the business structure from execution environments and infrastructure naming.
  5. Automate a control only after its rule, scope, failure path and owner are understood.
  6. Start with one product, review evidence and expand deliberately.

Five operating layers

Principles & policies

Purpose, classification, retention and the minimum governance baseline.

Organisation & roles

Explicit owners and stewards, with responsibilities assigned at the right scope.

Processes & decisions

Cultivate, govern, share and activate, with review and exception paths.

Controls & enablers

Contracts, quality checks, access policies, catalogues and operational safeguards.

Evidence & improvement

Decision records, test results, usage, incidents and agreed outcome measures.

Review questions

  • Who can decide, and is the acting role explicit?
  • What rule or agreement authorises the action?
  • What evidence demonstrates execution and its limitations?
  • When will the outcome or exception be reviewed?
